California has a two tier sales tax structure
- State-level 25% tax for the state of California
- District level tax varies based on which city and county you are located in, this will vary across the state and is in addition to the state level tax.
Total tax calculated will be the state tax + city/county tax. City taxes are often, but not always, higher than the county level taxes and these will be applied if you live in one of the qualifying cities — however if you live in none of the qualifying cities in the county, you will pay the standard county tax rate.
To use an example, if you are based in the city of Alhambra in Los Angeles county, you will pay 10.25% tax (7.25% state tax + 3% tax for Alhambra). However, if you are based in none of the qualifying cities in the county of Los Angeles, you will pay the standard county tax of 9.50% (7.25% State Tax + 2.25% county tax). This will all be calculated automatically at checkout through our in-house software based on your provided address.
