If you are a business owner in Rhode Island and wish to sell products in the state, you will need to apply for a resale certificate. This certificate allows businesses to purchase goods without paying sales tax, which can save you a lot of money over time. Applying for a resale certificate is easy–you just need some basic information about your business.

LDR’s LaTAP system requires account numbers as well as mailing addresses and NAICS codes of businesses which wish to apply for a resale certificate. With a recent system upgrade, Sales Tax Customers who have multiple locations were switched to utilize the location ID instead of the LDR account number. Registering a LaTAP account will allow you to resell homes in Rhode Island. There is an option to “Create a New Account” if you don’t already have one. It will be necessary to create a new account if you do not have one, but it’s free and easy!

What is a Rhode Island resale sales tax exemption certificate?

A Rhode Island resale tax exemption certificate allows businesses to buy or rent property or products without having to pay tax. It is good for one year, and businesses must renew it annually in order to continue enjoying the benefits of the exemption.

There are certain purchases or rentals that can be made without paying sales tax. Some examples are nails, fabric, and wood incorporated into a chair; items which will be rented out as real property or tangible personal property; and services that will be resold.

How to get a Rhode Island resale sales tax exemption certificate??

The purchaser does not need to circle one of the bullet points on the form in order for it to be valid- simply filling out and signing the form is enough. Keep in mind though that the address on the certificate does not need to match up with your company’s location address; it just needs to have your proper business name listed and be current.

This certificate is also known as a tax-exempt certificate and it must be obtained by the business, that intends to buy products with an intention to re-sell. Example: If your business is A and you’re located in Florida, you will need a reseller certificate to be able to sell goods in Florida. Although a reseller’s certificate is usually valid within the state, there are some friendly states that accept certificates from other states to allow them to do business in their state.

The owners of validated the certificate lie with the supplier and all necessary steps must be undertaken to ensure that the certificate is valid

The Colony of Rhode Island and Providence Plantations subsequently became a destination for religious and political dissenters and social outcasts, earning it the moniker “Rogue’s Island”.
